I love the adventure and whimsy of living in the mountains. So when I get to capture that magic while documenting momentous events in your life, I am beyond thrilled! It was a foggy and wet day for Hannah and Jake’s maternity photos in Shenandoah National Park, which made this session uniquely beautiful. I’m excited to share some inspiration and tips for you mountain maternity photos while showing off this stunning gallery!
You do not need to hike to the top of a mountain to have gorgeous maternity photos in Shenandoah National Park. Luckily, we have quite a few options! The easiest is to choose a location in one of the valleys of the mountains. This is what Hannah and Jake chose for their maternity pictures and it worked out beautifully! The fog seeped into the valley after a rain and gave such an earthy and magical atmosphere.
Another option is to choose a very easy trail. There are a lot of spots in the National Park that allow you to drive right up to the trailhead, making the trek a lot smaller. Then you walk for about 10 minute up a slight incline to the view. I only recommend this option if you are earlier in your pregnancy, think second trimester, and you were active before.
The most awe-worthy photos taken in Shenandoah are the ones were my couples embrace the beauty around them! Wade in a creek, reach the mountain top, or take the less traveled path are all great options… if you aren’t pregnant!
Embracing nature during your maternity photoshoot will look a little less adventurous, but just as beautiful! We can switch up backdrops, go on an easy walk through the field, lay out a picnic, and so much more. The goal is to feel in touch and comfortable, which can be done on a low key scale.
The biggest tip I can give you is to wear something comfortable! As a mom, I remember the days of pregnancy far too well. And they were uncomfortable! So don’t add to the already existing pain by wearing shoes that make you strain or a dress that makes you feel self-conscious. Instead, opt for the stretchy material, flats, and flattering maternity options!
