Winter weddings may not be for everyone. However, if you want an elegant wedding that offers a touch of color with a lot of class, then a winter wedding is for you! I recently captured a gorgeous downtown wedding as a Richmond wedding photographer, and I was so impressed with the winter wedding decorations! The holiday theme was subtle but present, a perfect combination.
The greatest impact on any wedding, no matter the season, are florals. I love how this couple chose to stick with the holiday theme and use green holly and red berries. While adding a touch of traditional wedding flowers with white roses and lilies. These florals added a classic and clean vibe to the entire Richmond venue.
A lot of the time, a chapel will have winter decorations for their congregation already set up. While some churches will let you move and change the decor, others will not. Something that you should be able to add no matter what is the decor at the end of the pews lining the aisle. As well as welcome signage and florals in the foyer.
This Richmond wedding was held in a Catholic church, and the couple lucked out with decor! The church had dozens of red poinsettias set up with accents of white. In addition, they were able to hang pine and red leaves on the end of every pew.
One of the best ways to keep a theme classy is to draw inspiration, but not take it literal. For example, when getting married around Christmas, you should draw inspiration from the colors, foliage, winter landscapes, and the feeling of the season. Rather than taking literal Christmas items like Santa Clause, sleds, and red and green presents.
For this Richmond wedding, you can see how the books behind the bridal party are red and green with touches of lights and winter foliage. They also chose to leave up the wreathes around the venue to keep a touch of the season!
Although we want to keep the winter holiday theme subtle for your winter wedding decorations, I do encourage my couples to embrace the decor that is already up! Your wedding venue and chapel will probably be decorated for the holidays. Instead of trying to fight it, have your photographer be strategic in capturing photos without the decor. In addition, embrace the season and have a few pictures with the holiday decor just for fun!
