As a Charlottesville wedding photographer I get to visit Shenandoah National Park for all types of special occasions! Everything from surprise proposals and engagements, to elopements and weddings. Shenandoah’s mountains and lush woods make the perfect backdrop for every monuments moment! So when Jamie and Matt travelled from Tennessee for their Shenandoah National Park engagement photos, I was beyond excited to take them to the top of a mountain in the most gorgeous park in Virginia!
Jamie and Matt love to visit National Parks together, but Shenandoah is their favorite. Matt actually proposed at Shenandoah National Park, making this engagement shoot extra special to the couple. In addition to the sentiment, this location was absolutely stunning for their engagement pictures! We took a short hike up the mountain for an out of this world view of the sun setting beyond the mountain range.
I love this specific location for so many reasons! Although you look like you are on top of the world on the jagged rocks, it is actually a short hike up the mountain. Making it perfect for proposals and engagements, as well as wedding portraits. You wont have to hike for miles for the views, but you will still have adventurous engagement photos! In addition, on the way up you will get stunning woodland engagement photos that will add variety to your gallery.
Another aspect of Matt and Jamie’s Shenandoah National Park engagement photos that I adored was their outfit choice. Jamie wore a burnt orange maxi dress with an over sized patterned cardigan. This photographed beautifully! She had so much movement and dimension in her gown, as well as being comfortable through the entire session. Matt’s bright blue suit was the perfect contract to the orange in Jamie’s dress. In addition it added a more formal vibe to their engagement photos.
